Will Netflix Help YouTube Hit Cobra Kai Scale New Heights?

By now, most of us have heard about shows that have benefitted from the "Netflix Bump"— once under-the-radar shows like Breaking Bad, Schitt's Creek and You that saw huge viewership gains after making their second-run Netflix debuts. The YouTube original series Cobra Kai is a different beast altogether; by the end of the show's first season, it had become the most in-demand streaming series on TV. (The second season was even more successful). Today, ahead of its upcoming third season in 2021 (its first as a Netflix Original), the show's first two seasons are hopping from YouTube to Netflix, begging the question: can Netflix launch an already popular show further into the stratosphere?

Also today: Netflix premieres a young adult drama from the author of Silver Linings Playbook, Hulu drops a new film starring Vince Vaughn, and Disney+ is releasing a Phineas and Ferb movie. Here's what's new and noteworthy on TV this Friday:

SWITCHING CHANNELS: YouTube's one bonafide scripted hit, Cobra Kai 's first two seasons are moving to Netflix ahead of its Season 3 return early next year. Picking up 35 years after The Karate Kid, life has taken Johnny Lawrence and Daniel LaRusso down very different paths. When Johnny sees a chance to rewrite his story by reviving the infamous Cobra Kai dojo, it sets him on a collision course with Miyagi-Do's most famous student. Watch the trailer. SERIES PREMIERE: Spinning off from I Am a Killer, the docuseries I Am a Killer: Released follows a prisoner who's released from prison after 30 years of incarceration, only to make a startling announcement. Streaming on Netflix

ORIGINAL MOVIE: Based on the novel Sorta Like a Rock Star by Matthew Quick (Silver Linings Playbook), the young adult drama All Together Now follows a gifted musician (Auli’i Cravalho) with dreams of attending Carnegie Melon as she maneuvers a minefield of personal challenges that threaten to derail her hopes for the future. SERIES PREMIERE: The third season of the vigilante superhero drama The Boys begins next Friday, where it will be accompanied by its own after-show. Ahead of the show's return, the first episode of Prime Rewind: Inside The Boys looks back at Seasons 1 and 2, getting viewers up to speed on all the action. Streaming on Prime Video

ORIGINAL MOVIE: For their latest adventure, Phineas and Ferb are heading to space. In Phineas and Ferb The Movie: Candace Against the Universe, the junior inventors put their skills to the test in order to save their sister when she is abducted by aliens. Watch the trailer. Streaming on Disney+

NEW EPISODE: Shannon Purser (Stranger Things) and Kendra Carelli (Maid to Order) star as hikers who check into Room 104 ahead of their three month excursion into the wilderness, only to face painful truths about their friendship in the hours before their adventure begins. 8:00 PM ET on HBO
