Ryan Murphy Stays On-Brand in Netflix's All-Star The Prom

Leave it to Ryan Murphy to bring a cast that includes the likes of Nicole Kidman, Meryl Streep and Kerry Washington to his campy Netflix adaptation of the Broadway musical The Prom. As Primetimer's Joe Reid writes in his just-posted Ryan Murphy Netflix Report Card, big stars and stage-to-screen adaptations are just two trends to emerge two years into the uber-producer's five-year deal with the streaming giant.

Also this weekend: Lost meets Lord of the Flies in Amazon's new dystopian original series The Wilds, Timothée Chalamet and The Boss take to Studio 8H, and it's A Charlie Brown Christmas free-for-all on both Apple TV+ and PBS. Here's what's new and noteworthy on TV this weekend:

FRIDAY DECEMBER 11

ORIGINAL MOVIE: An all-star cast leads Ryan Murphy's screen adaptation of the Broadway musical The Prom, in which a group of down-on-their-luck Broadway stars shake up a small Indiana town when they rally behind a teen who wants to go to the prom with her girlfriend. MADE FOR TV MOVIE: New Yorker Hugo (Ben Lewis) heads to Milwaukee in Lifetime's LGBTQ holiday movie The Christmas Setup, where, unbeknownst to him, his mother Kate (Fran Drescher) has arranged a romantic meet cute with an attractive young man named Patrick (played by Lewis' real life husband Blake Lee).
