NBC's Chicago Wednesdays Return After an Abbreviated 2020 Run

UPDATE (8:00 PM ET 1/5/21): Today's siege of the US Capitol has led to several last-minute schedule changes, with NBC and ABC announcing plans to pre-empt regular primetime programming with live news coverage, while Seth Meyers' Late Night and Stephen Colbert's Late Show are both planning live episodes in reaction to the day's news.

2020 wreaked havoc with Dick Wolf's hugely popular Chicago franchise, with nearly six months lapsing before Chicago Med, Chicago Fire, and Chicago P.D returned this fall. Two weeks later, they went on hiatus for the holidays. Tonight all three shows return for the first in an extended stretch of new episodes.

Also today: FOX takes the wraps off its Name That Tune revival, The Masked Dancer settles into its regular timeslot, and a new Netflix docuseries explores what happens after we die. Here’s what’s new and noteworthy on TV this Wednesday:

NEW EPISODE: Choi (Brian Tee) sends April (Yaya DaCosta) back to the ED on Chicago Med, where she and Charles (Oliver Platt) team up to take on a mysterious patient. Meanwhile, Will (Nick Gehlfuss) is forced to make a life-or-death decision for one of his trial patients. Watch preview. 8:00 PM ET on NBC

NEW EPISODE: A mishap on the aerial ladder leaves Mouch (Christian Stolte) shaken and questioning his abilities on Chicago Fire. NEW EPISODE: Ruzek (Patrick John Flueger) and Burgess (Marina Squerciati) discover a child walking alone in the middle of the street on Chicago PD, only to discover to that her entire family has been murdered. NBA BASKETBALL: The first primetime NBA matchup of 2021 is set to pit The Boston Celtics vs The Miami Heat in a rematch of last year's Eastern Conference Finals. 7:30 PM ET / 4:30 PM PT on ESPN

NEW EPISODE: Cotton Candy, Ice Cube, Moth, Sloth and Zebra take the stage as The Masked Dancer returns for its first new episode in its regular timeslot. 8:00 PM ET on FOX

SERIES REVIVAL: TV's latest classic game show reboot is Name That Tune, which joins Fox's Wednesday Night lineup after The Masked Dancer. Jane Krakowski hosts, while Randy Jackson leads the band. Watch preview. 9:00 PM ET on FOX

SPECIAL PRESENTATION: With Season 12 set to premiere next week, tonight's Married at First Sight Kickoff Special will see insiders and commentators giving their predictions about the upcoming season and each of its five newlywed couples. Kevin Frazier hosts. 8:00 PM ET on Lifetime

SPECIAL PRESENTATION: In a TV takeover the likes of which we haven't seen since Regis Philbin hosted the show in the early 2000s, ABC is airing a full three-hour block of Who Wants to Be a Millionaire tonight, as Jimmy Kimmel welcomes Amanda Peet, Zachary Quinto, Karamo Brown and Ray Romano in the hot seat.
