TV Brings the Multiplex Home with Three High-Profile Film Premieres

A year ago the notion of an A-list film bowing online day-and-date with its theatrical release still seemed a long ways off, but between COVID and a fiercely competitive streaming market, this weekend sees not one but three could-be blockbusters bowing on three different streaming services — Coming 2 America on Amazon, Raya and the Last Dragon on Disney+, and Boss Level on Hulu.

Also this weekend: WandaVision wraps its gangbusters first season, Oprah interviews Harry and Meghan on CBS, and NBC's Good Girls kicks off its fourth season. Here's what's new and noteworthy on TV this weekend:

FRIDAY MARCH 5

MOVIE PREMIERE: 33 years after his first visit, Akeem (Eddie Murphy) learns he has a long-lost son in Coming 2 America, leading the African monarch and his trusted assistant Semmi (Arsenio Hall) to return to United States. MOVIE PREMIERE: The latest Disney film to get the "premier access" treatment, the CGI-animated Raya and the Last Dragon follows the lone warror Raya (Kelly Marie Tran) as she enlists the last in the species to help save the earth. Watch trailer. Streaming on Disney+ with Premier Access

MOVIE PREMIERE: Frank Grillo, Mel Gibson, Naomi Watts and Michelle Yeoh star in Boss Level. Originally scheduled for theatrical release in August 2019, the sci-fi action thriller tells the story of a former special forces agent (Grillo) trapped in a time loop of the day his murder. SEASON FINALE: As Primetimer's Joe Reid writes, WandaVision has overcome MCU fatigue to become quite possibly the buzziest TV show since Game of Thrones. The series wraps its nine-episode first season today. Streaming on Disney+

SERIES PREMIERE: Alan Tudyk voices the titular Devil in the Syfy animated series Devil May Care, which follows the ruler of the underworld as he hires a social media coordinator to rehab Hell's reputation. Watch trailer. Midnight on Syfy

MADE FOR TV MOVIE: A small island community is turned upside down when one of the town's citizens (Paul McGillion) is found dead in Circle of Deception. As the investigation winds its way through neighbors and best friends, the murderer is finally revealed. 8:00 PM ET on Lifetime

ENCORE PRESENTATION: In this repeat of the series opener, physics-defying Debris from a destroyed alien spacecraft is scattered across the Western Hemisphere changes the lives of individuals around the world.
