Valentine’s Day comes six months early this year with a weekend chock-full of on-screen romance. Amazon kicks things off with the return of anthology series Modern Love, which has recruited the likes of Tobias Menzies, Kit Harington, and Minnie Driver to probe the realities of relationships in 2021. Later in the weekend, Hallmark catches wedding fever in a new made for TV movie and Love Island declares a winner as the CBS reality show wraps its third season. FRIDAY AUGUST 13
Modern Love: Complete second season. Amazon brings a new set of love stories to the screen in the second season of its star-studded anthology series. CODA: Original film. Emilia Jones plays 17-year-old Ruby, the sole hearing member of a deaf family (a “CODA,” the Child of Deaf Adults), who comes into her own when she joins her high school choir club. Evangelion: 3.0+1.01 Thrice Upon a Time: Original film. The fourth and final chapter of the anime sensation arrives on Amazon. Brand New Cherry Flavor: Complete limited series. A filmmaker heads to Hollywood in the early ‘90s to make her movie, only to tumble down a rabbit hole of sex, magic, and revenge in Netflix’s new psychological thriller. Toy Story 4: Cable premiere. Pixar’s 2019 sequel makes its Disney Channel debut as part of a special night of programming. The newest film in the franchise follows Sheriff Woody (Tom Hanks), Buzz Lightyear (Tim Allen), and the rest of the toys as they go on a road trip with their new owner Bonnie (Madeleine McGraw) and must determine where their loyalties lie. Descendants: The Royal Wedding: Special presentation. Disney returns to Auradon for Mal (Dove Cameron) and King Ben’s (Mitchell Hope) royal wedding in a 20-minute animated special. Disney’s Magical Bake Off: Series premiere. Three teams of two race against the clock to design the ultimate Disney-themed cake in a new baking competition hosted by Dara Reneé, Issac Ryan Brown, and Disneyland resort pastry chef Graciela Gomez.
