Netflix's Death to 2021 and ABC's The Year: 2021 Tackle the Year That Was

    Is life imitating art or is it the other way around? Netflix and ABC both look back at 2021 today, albeit one in satirical fashion and the other a bit more seriously. ABC's The Year: 2021 is the straight one, with Good Morning America host Robin Roberts reporting on the history-defining events of the year, while Netflix'a Death to 2021 is the streamer's second annual mockumentary-style year-end comedy special from the producers of Black Mirror.

    Also today, Olivia Colman's four-part miniseries Landscapers concludes on HBO, Captain Lee counts down Below Deck's most "yachtrageous" moments, and the original 2016 Trolls movie gets a primetime airing on NBC. Here's what's new sand noteworthy on TV Today:

    The Year: 2021: Special presentation. Robin Roberts hosts this two hour look back at the year's biggest moments -- from COVID and the Capitol Insurrection to pop culture, sports, and beyond. 9:00 PM ET on ABC

    Death to 2021: Comedy Special. Leave it to the producers of Black Mirror to come up with a darkly comic take on 2021. A follow-up to last year's Death to 2020, this comedic retrospective mixes real news footage and scripted talking head interviews to send up the year. Watch clip. Streaming on Netflix

    Landscapers: Series finale. Old doubts and new regrets test their love as Susan (Olivia Colman) and Christopher (David Thewlis) face trial and meet for the first time since their arrest. 9:00 PM ET on HBO

    Captain Lee's Yachtrageous Moments: Special presentation. Below Deck's own "stud of the sea" counts down the show's most unforgettable moments in a new special. 9:00 PM ET on Bravo

    College Football: Bowl season continues with two games scheduled at press time, COVID permitting:

    • Quick Lane Bowl: Western Michigan vs Nevada 11:00 AM ET/8:00 AM PT on ESPN
    • Military Bowl: Boston College vs East Carolina 2:30 PM ET/11:30 AM PT on ESPN

    Monday Night Football: The New Orleans Saints host the Maiami Dolphins in a game that both teams need to win as they push for a playoff spot. 8:20 PM ET on ESPN

    Insecure: The End: Cable premiere. This behind-the -cenes documenary special looks at the making of the show's final season and the cultural impact of the series, which concluded its fifth and final season last night. Watch trailer. 10:00 PM ET on HBO

    Messyness: Winter premiere. “Master of Messy” Nicole “Snooki” Polizzi returns with more of the internet’s most debaucherous clips in this Ridiculousness spinoff. Two episodes air back-to-back Monday through Friday of this week at 9:00 PM ET on MTV

    Trolls: Movie. The 2016 animated feature film sees the happiest Troll ever born, Poppy (voiced by Anna Kendrick), set off on a journey with the curmudgeonly Branch (Justin Timberlake). Watch trailer. 8:00 PM ET on NBC

    That’s My Jam: Encore presentation. The Voice’s Ariana Grande and Blake Shelton face off against Kelly Clarkson and John Legend in the premiere of Jimmy Fallon’s new music and comedy game show. The series returns with regular episodes in January. Watch clip. 10:00 PM ET on NBC

    Unapologetic: Documentary film. Director Ashley O'Shay takes an inside look at the social justice moevent that transformed Chicago, from the police murder of Rekia Boyd in 2012 through the election of mayor Lori Lightfoot in 2019. Watch trailer. 10:00 PM on PBS
