NBC brings Eurovision to the United States tonight with American Song Contest, which sees singers from every U.S. state and territory compete to win the country’s vote for best song. Also today: The 9-1-1 franchise takes over Fox Monday nights, The Gilded Age wraps its first season, and Women’s March Madness continues with the final day of Round 2. Here’s what’s new and noteworthy on TV this Monday:
American Song Contest: Series premiere. Singers representing all 50 states, five U.S. territories, and the nation’s capital perform a new original song in hopes of winning the country’s vote in NBC’s riff on the Eurovision Song Contest. A handful of established artists, including Michael Bolton (Connecticut), Jewel (Alaska), and Sisqó (Maryland), are set to compete alongside yet-to-be-discovered solo singers and groups in the live event, hosted by Snoop Dogg and Kelly Clarkson. 9-1-1: Season 5 spring premiere. After sharing the same timeslot this fall, Fox begins airing both of its 9-1-1 series back-to-back tonight. First up: Athena (Angela Bassett), Bobby (Peter Krause), and the 118 race to rescue a family whose pick-up truck has been rigged with a pipe bomb which will detonate if the vehicle slows under 55 miles per hour. 9-1-1: Lone Star: Time slot premiere. The 126 work to save Catherine (guest star Amy Acker) after she receives a package at the governor’s office that may contain a biohazard. Watch preview. 9:00 PM ET on FOX
The Gilded Age: Season 1 finale. As Ada (Cynthia Nixon) and Aurora (Kelli O’Hara) rush to stop Marian (Louisa Jacobson) from making a huge decision, Bertha (Carrie Coon) and Mrs. Astor’s (Donna Murphy) clash impacts all of New York society. Watch preview. 9:00 PM ET on HBO
American Idol: New episode (new night). The ABC singing competition expands to two nights as the final audition round concludes. 8:00 PM ET on ABC
My Brilliant Friend: New episode. After a tense argument, Elena (Margherita Mazzucco) and Pietro (Matteo Cecchi) marry in town hall. Later, Elena gives birth to a daughter and struggles to find time to write. 10:00 PM ET on HBO
Better Things: New episode. Sam (Pamela Adlon) makes borscht. 10:00 PM ET on FX
NCAA Women’s Basketball Tournament: Teams compete for the remaining spots in the Sweet Sixteen in the final day of Round 2 games. Coverage begins at 4:00 PM ET/1:00 PM PT on ESPN Networks
NBA Basketball: The Eastern and Western conferences meet as the Brooklyn Nets host the Utah Jazz. 7:30 PM ET/4:30 PM PT on NBA TV
