Streaming Brings the Drama With The Essex Serpent and The Lincoln Lawyer

Several high-profile dramas take center stage on TV this weekend, as Tom Hiddleston and Claire Danes’ The Essex Serpent slithers onto Apple TV+, Netflix reboots The Lincoln Lawyer, and HBO puts a fresh spin on The Time Traveler’s Wife.

FRIDAY MAY 13

The Essex Serpent: Series premiere. Tom Hiddleston and Claire Danes sizzle in this drama about a London widow who moves to Essex to investigate reports of a mythical serpent. After she forms a surprising bond with the local pastor, tragedy strikes and the locals begin accusing her of attracting the creature. Two episodes drop today. Read our review. The Lincoln Lawyer: Complete Season 1. David E. Kelley adapts the story of Mickey Haller (Manuel Garcia-Rulfo), an iconoclast who runs his Los Angeles law practice out of the back of his Lincoln Town Car, in this 10-episode series based on the second book in Michael Connelly’s novel series. Senior Year: Original film. After a cheerleader (Rebel Wilson) falls off a pyramid and into a 20-year coma, she wakes up as a 37-year-old woman, ready to return to high school, regain her status, and claim the prom queen crown that eluded her. Candy: Limited series finale. Candy Montgomery (Jessica Biel) tells her story as Hulu’s five-episode event comes full circle. Streaming on Hulu

The Kids in the Hall: Complete first season. Dave Foley, Bruce McCulloch, Kevin McDonald, Mark McKinney, and Scott Thompson reboot their groundbreaking sketch series on Amazon. Bling Empire: Complete Season 2. Los Angeles’ uber-rich Asians return to Netflix for another season of romance, rivalries, and social warfare. Greatness Code: Complete Season 2. Children Ruin Everything: Complete Season 1. Astrid (Meaghan Rath) and James (Aaron Abrams) struggle to find a balance between being parents and being who they were before children in a new single-camera comedy from Kurt Smeaton (Schitt’s Creek). Couples Therapy: Season 3 premiere. World-renowned psychologist and psychoanalyst Dr. Orna Guralnik guides a new group of couples through real-life therapy sessions.
