Stranger Things and Obi-Wan Kenobi Battle for Streaming Supremacy

    It’s a battle of the streaming heavyweights as Stranger Things Season 4 and Disney+ spinoff Obi-Wan Kenobi vie for eyeballs this holiday weekend. Both seasons have been in the works for years, but which will come out on top?

    Also: Sundance satire Emergency hits Prime Video, Disney+ profiles humanitarian chef José Andrés in We Feed People, Shoresy gets his due in Hulu’s Letterkenny spinoff, and more. Here’s what’s new and noteworthy on TV this weekend:

    FRIDAY MAY 27

    Stranger Things: Season 4, Volume 1. Six months after the Battle of Starcourt, the gang is separated for the first time as they navigate the complexities of high school. But when a new supernatural threat surfaces, they reunite to finally put an end to the horrors of the Upside Down. The first seven episodes of the season drop today, followed by the final two on July 1. Watch trailer. Streaming on Netflix

    Obi-Wan Kenobi: Series premiere. Ewan McGregor reprises his role as the iconic Jedi Master in a new spinoff set ten years after the events of Star Wars: Revenge of the Sith. As Obi-Wan grapples with the renewed power of Sith Lord Darth Vader (Hayden Christensen), he turns his attention to 10-year-old Luke Skywalker (Grant Feely) on Tatooine and embarks on a great adventure around the galaxy.     Emergency: Original film. Ready for a night of partying, three college students of color must weigh the pros and cons of calling the police when they discover an unconscious girl in their dorm room. The satire earned writer KD Dávila the Waldo Salt Screenwriting Award at the 2022 Sundance Film Festival. Watch trailer. Streaming on Prime Video

    We Feed People: Original documentary. Director Ron Howard follows renowned chef José Andrés and his nonprofit World Central Kitchen as they provide meals to those affected by humanitarian, climate, and community crises around the globe. Watch trailer. Streaming on Disney+

    Shoresy: Complete Season 1. Fan favorite Letterkenny character Shoresy (Jared Keeso) takes center ice in this spinoff that sees him join a senior AAA hockey team in Sudbury on a quest to never lose again. The comedy features a host of real-life hockey players, including Terry Ryan, Brandon Nolan, and Jon “Nasty” Mirasty. Watch trailer. Streaming on Hulu

    Carpool Karaoke: The Series: Season 5 premiere. Celebrities get behind the wheel and sing along to their personal playlists in a new season of the James Corden-produced series. Season 5 features appearances from Simu Liu and Jessica Henwick; The White Lotus co-stars Murray Bartlett, Alexandra Daddario, and Sydney Sweeney; and Anitta and Saweetie.. Watch trailer.     Bosch Legacy: Season 1 finale. As Chandler (Mimi Rogers) builds her best case against the LAPD, Bosch (Titus Welliver) reaches a dangerous endgame in the Vance case, and Maddie (Madison Lintz) is abducted. Streaming on Amazon Freevee

    Iain Stirling: Failing Upwards: Comedy special. Scottish comic Iain Stirling riffs on social anxiety, social media pressure, and the one time a man stole his shoes. Watch preview. Streaming on Prime Video

    The Blacklist: Season 9 finale. While Red (James Spader) and Cooper (Harry Lennix) square off with conflicting endgames for their mutual traitor, a major secret about the Task Force falls into the wrong hands. 8:00 PM ET on NBC

    Major League Baseball: The Boston Red Sox host the Baltimore Orioles. 7:00 PM ET4:00 PM PT on Apple TV+

    NBA Playoffs: Down 3-2 to the Boston Celtics, it's win or go home for the Miami Heat in Game 6 of the Eastern Conference finals. 8:30 PM ET/5:30 PM PT on ESPN

    SATURDAY MAY 28

    Fifty Shades of Grey: Marathon event. Lifetime airs all three Fifty Shades movies, starring Dakota Johnson as a young woman who is drawn into the world of BDSM when she meets a wealthy businessman (Jamie Dornan). Watch trailer. Marathon begins at 3:30 PM on Lifetime

    Transplant: New episode (new time slot). Bash’s (Hamza Haq) past weighs heavily on him as he fights for an emancipated teenager with a failing kidney. Meanwhile, Mags (Laurence Leboeuf) treats a baby with a complicated heart condition, and Theo (Jim Watson) is surprised by a young asthma patient’s brazen mother. The Canadian drama moves to Saturdays through mid-July. Watch preview. 8:00 PM ET on NBC

    Everything But the House: Season 2 premiere. Flea market flipper Lara Spencer and her team of expert appraisers help homeowners clear out their houses and cash in on their clutter in a new season of the HGTV show. 9:00 PM ET on HGTV

    USA Track & Field: Nike Prefontaine Classic: The country’s best track and field stars gather in Eugene, Oregon for the annual Prefontaine Classic. NBCUniversal will broadcast two hours of coverage beginning at 4:00 PM ET/1:00 PM PT on CNBC and 4:30 PM ET/1:30 PM PT on NBC

    Major League Baseball: It’s Baseball Night in America. Depending on your region, you can watch one of two games, both at 7:00 PM ET/4:00 PM PT on FOX:

    • Philadelphia Phillies at New York Mets
    • Chicago Cubs at Chicago White Sox

    SUNDAY MAY 29

    61st Street: Season 1 finale. As Franklin (Courtney B. Vance) faces a setback, Moses (Tosin Cole) takes the stand, and a verdict is read in the case. The drama has already been renewed for a second season, which will consust of eight additional episodes. Watch preview. 10:10 PM ET on AMC

    National Memorial Day Concert: Special presentation. Stars from across the worlds of music, film, and TV pay tribute to fallen military members during the annual concert. Jean Smart, Joe Mantegna, and Gary Sinese are among those slated to appear. 8:00 PM ET on PBS

    Riverdale: New episode. After learning that Percival (guest star Chris O’Shea) is exploiting his new work crew, Archie (KJ Apa) and Tabitha (Erinn Westbrook) devise a plan to help protect the workers and get them out from under Percival's control. Elsewhere, Jughead (Cole Sprouse) finds himself with a target on his back after Percival catches wind of a scheme he and Veronica (Camila Mendes) hatched against Reggie (Charles Melton).
