The Boys, Physical, and Fire Island Headline a Busy Weekend

It’s another jam-packed weekend on streaming, as The Boys kicks off its third season, Physical returns to Apple TV+, and Hulu puts a queer spin on Jane Austen in Fire Island.

Plus: the women of P-Valley face even bigger challenges in Season 2, Floor Is Lava introduces a new obstacle, Vanessa Hudgens hosts the 2022 MTV Movie & TV Awards, and more. Here’s what’s new and noteworthy on TV this weekend:

FRIDAY JUN3 3

The Boys: Season 3 premiere. After a year of relative calm, The Boys learn of a mysterious anti-Supe weapon that has fallen into the hands of Billy Butcher (Karl Urban). Meanwhile, Homelander (Antony Starr) has a meltdown in the public eye, adding a new wrinkle to his feud with The Seven. Season 3 also introduces a new character, Soldier Boy, played by Jensen Ackles. Physical: Season 2 premiere. As Sheila Rubin (Rose Byrne) works to expand her business, she meets her match in Vincent “Vinnie” Green (Murray Bartlett), a charismatic Los Angeles fitness instructor with an wellness empire of his own. Watch trailer. Streaming on Apple TV+

Fire Island: Original film. Inspired by Jane Austen’s Pride and Prejudice, this romantic comedy centers on two best friends (Joel Kim Booster and Bowen Yang) who set out to have a legendary summer adventure in the Fire Island Pines. The film's large ensemble also includes Margaret Cho, Matt Rogers, Conrad Ricamora, and James Scully. Watch trailer. Streaming on Hulu

P-Valley: Season 2 premiere (special night and time). As new blood shakes up the locker room at The Pynk, Autumn (Elarica Johnson) and Uncle Clifford (Nicco Annan) grapple for the throne. Elsewhere, with the casino’s fate hanging in the balance, the Chucalissa political machine kicks into overdrive. Floor Is Lava: Complete Season 2. The Netflix competition series returns with higher stakes, hotter lava, and bigger obstacles, including a huge, slippery volcano. Watch trailer. Streaming on Netflix

Shining Girls: Limited series finale. Elisabeth Moss’ psychological drama comes to an end after eight episodes. Read our review. Streaming on Apple TV+

Hollywood Stargirl: Original film. When her mother (Judy Greer) is hired to work on a movie, Stargirl’s (Grace VanderWaal) family relocates to Los Angeles, where she meets an eclectic assortment of characters. The sequel features a host of new stars, including Uma Thurman, Tyrel Jackson Williams, and Elijah Richardson. Watch trailer. Streaming on Disney+

Trixie Motel: Series premiere. Drag superstar Trixie Mattel invests her life savings to buy and update a dilapidated motel in Palm Springs, California in this eight-episode renovation series. Trixie will be joined by her boyfriend and co-owner, David, as well as other fabulous helpers. Watch trailer. Streaming on Discovery+

Interceptor: Original film. An Army captain (Elsa Pataky) must user her years of tactical training and military expertise when terrorists threaten the remote missile interceptor station under her command. Luke Bracey also stars. Watch trailer. Streaming on Netflix

The Villains of Valley View: Series premiere. Teenage supervillain Havoc (Isabella Pappas) and her family are forced to relocate to a sleepy Texas suburb, where they must hide their superpowers and quell their villainous nature in hopes of appearing “normal.” Two episodes air tonight. Ultra Violet & Black Scorpion: Series premiere. An everyday Mexican American teen, Violet Rodriguez, (Scarlett Estevez) finally gets a chance to shine when a magical luchador mask bestows her with superpowers. Violet’s new powers draw the attention of her uncle Cruz, who moonlights as superhero Black Scorpion, and he takes her under his wing as they fight crime in the city. Living Smaller: Series premiere. As the housing market continues to change, A&E celebrates the ways people have taken on the challenge of living small, from tiny homes to Airstreams. Two episodes air every Saturday. 12:00 PM ET on A&E

Hidden Gems: TV movie. While preparing for her sister’s wedding, Addie (Hunter King) loses her grandmother’s ring in the waters of Hawaii. Addie recruits dive instructor Jack (Beau Mirchoff) to help her search for the lost treasure, and he ends up becoming her tour guide to the island’s hidden gems. Transplant: New episode. Mags (Laurence Leboeuf) is flooded by memories of her own health struggles as a child while fighting to save a baby with a heart defect. With his performance still being closely scrutinized, Bash (Hamza Haq) remotely treats a cluster of patients with an undiagnosed illness in Aleppo. 8:00 PM ET on NBC

Saturday Night Live: Encore presentation. NBC will re-air John Mulaney's Five-Timers Club episode, which aired in February 2022. With musical guest LCD Soundsystem. 11:30 PM ET/8:30 PM PT on NBC
