Peacock Puts a Fresh Spin on Queer as Folk, Girls5Eva Season 2 Wraps

It’s Peacock’s day in the sun as the NBC-owned streaming service revives Queer as Folk for a modern audience and closes the book on Girls5Eva Season 2. Plus, the January 6th committee presents its findings so far in a special primetime session, HBO Max brings Michael Peterson’s story into the present day in The Staircase finale, Netflix celebrates LGBTQ+ comics, and more. Here’s what’s new and noteworthy on TV this Thursday:

Queer as Folk: Complete first season. A diverse group of friends find their lives forever transformed in the aftermath of a tragic shooting at a nightclub. The series reimagining stars Devin Way, Fin Argus, Jesse James Keitel, and Ryan O'Connell, with recurring appearances from Kim Cattrall and Juliette Lewis. Watch trailer. Streaming on Peacock

Girls5Eva: Season 2 finale. As Girls5eva competes to be the opening act on Collab's world tour, the women grapple with the feasibility of leaving New York. Peacock has yet to renew Girls5eva for Season 3, and its cancellation of Saved by the Bell after just two seasons has us worried. Streaming on Peacock

Jan 6th Hearings: Special presentation. The House select committee investigating the Jan 6th attack on the Capitol is set to hold the first public hearing on its findings so far in a special primetime session. 8:00 PM ET on ABC, CBS, NBC and the cable news channels 

The Staircase: Limited series finale. The Petersons' 15-year-ordeal comes to an end as Michael (Colin Firth) enters his Alford Plea, and Kathleen's death continues to reverberate throughout the family. Streaming on HBO Max

Stand Out: an LGBTQ+ Celebration: Comedy special. Awide range of queer comics take the stage, including Billy Eichner (who also serves as host), Rosie O’Donnell, Wanda Sykes, Tig Notaro, and Sam Jay. Filmed at the Netflix Is a Joke Fest in May. Streaming on Netflix

The Kardashians: New episode. As Kim travels to the Dominican Republic for her Sports Illustrated swimsuit cover, Kourtney meets comedian Benny Drama, and Khloé learns devastating news about Tristan. Watch preview. Streaming on Hulu

Legendary: Season 3 finale. The voguing competition names one house its Season 3 victor, handing over a $100,000 grand prize. Streaming on HBO Max

Backstage with Katherine Ryan: Comedy special. Katherine Ryan (The Duchess) hosts up and coming UK comedians in this unconventional special that combines onstage comedy with unscripted backstage footage. Watch trailer. Streaming on Prime Video

B-Boy Blues: Original film. Based on James Earl Hardy’s novel, this Jussie Smollett-directed drama stars Timothy Richardson and Thomas Mackie as a college educated journalist from Brooklyn and a bike messenger from Harlem who fall in love. The film is Smollett’s first project since his 2019 hate crime scandal. Watch trailer. Streaming on BET+

Walker: New episode. Cordell (Jared Padalecki) and James (Coby Bell) make a shocking discovery. Meanwhile, Stella (Violet Brinson) and August (Kale Culley) have a traumatic afternoon, and Liam (Keegan Allan) takes a concern to the Davidson’s door. Watch preview. 8:00 PM ET on The CW

MTV Unplugged: Twenty One Pilots: Special presentation. Twenty One Pilots perform stripped-back and reimagined versions of their most popular songs in a new installment of MTV’s iconic series. 9:00 PM ET on MTV
