HBO Celebrates Its 50th Anniversary With House of the Dragon and Willie Mays

It’s been a record-setting 50 years for HBO, which celebrates its milestone anniversary with a day of special programming. The premium cabler’s “Fifty Years of Firsts” campaign culminates today with the HBOwards, a social media awards show that highlights the best of HBO’s first 50 years, a special airing of House of the Dragon, and a tribute to Major League Baseball star Willie Mays.

Elsewhere, ABC, CBS, and NBC preempt their regular programming for midterm election coverage, Neal Brennan lands a new Netflix special, Triviaverse tests viewers’ knowledge, and more. Here’s what’s new and noteworthy on TV this Tuesday:

House of the Dragon: Special airing. The Game of Thrones prequel takes over the primetime slot on HBO2, giving viewers an opportunity to discover or revisit the first three episodes of the season. Throughout the week, other HBO shows will get their own mini-marathon, including Succession, Barry, and Winning Time: The Rise of the Lakers Dynasty. 8:00 PM ET on HBO2

Say Hey, Willie Mays!: Original documentary. Director Nelson George explores the life and career of MLB Hall of Famer Willie Mays in this documentary featuring exclusive interviews with Mays, his godson Barry Bonds, and more players who speak to Mays’ legacy as a Black baseball player. Midterm Election Coverage: The major broadcast and cable news networks preempt their regular programming to offer live updates and analysis of today’s midterm elections. Primetime coverage runs for three hours on the broadcast networks, and throughout the day and night on cable news. 8:00 PM ET on ABC, CBS, NBC, and PBS

Neal Brennan: Blocks: Comedy special. Neal Brennan moves physical blocks around the stage in order to explain the issues plaguing his psyche, including his complicated relationship with his dog and his slim chances of finding everlasting love. Watch trailer. Streaming on Netflix

Triviaverse: Interactive special. Challenge a friend or beat a mysterious foe by answering random, rapid-fire questions about art, history, science, geography, and more topics. Watch trailer. Streaming on Netflix

The Resident: New episode. When a prison doctor believes a death row inmate is lying about his symptoms, Conrad (Matt Czuchry) and Raptor (Malcolm-Jamal Warner) are called in to examine him. The episode marks Warner’s first time directing the medical drama. Watch preview. 8:00 PM ET on FOX

The Winchesters: Encore presentation. The CW re-airs the second episode of the Supernatural prequel, which finds John (Drake Rodger) and his mother Millie (Bianca Kajlich) at odds over his new interest in demon hunting. Watch preview. 8:00 PM ET on The CW
