Not Dead Yet: Wednesday, 8:30 PM ET on ABC

This comedy adapted from Alexandra Potter’s novel Confessions of a 40-Something F**k Up stars Gina Rodriguez as Nell, a struggling journalist who finds herself stuck writing obituaries — and getting unsolicited life advice from the spirits of her subjects. The former Jane the Virgin star is joined by New Girl’s always-engaging Hannah Simone, Lauren Ash, Rick Glassman, and Angela Gibbs, plus Nell’s weekly roster of ghostly guest stars.

Marvel’s Moon Girl and Devil Dinosaur: Friday, 8:00 PM ET on Disney Channel

Laurence Fishburne produces an animated kids series about Lunella Lafayette, a Black pre-teen rumored to be the smartest person in the Marvel universe, and her new pal in crime fighting, a huge red dinosaur. With stylish animation and a voice cast including Diamond White, Alfre Woodard, Sasheer Zamata, Jermaine Fowler, and Fishburne himself, Marvel’s Moon Girl and Devil Dinosaur looks to be a breezy, colorful new addition to the superhero landscape.

You Season 4, Part 1: Thursday, Netflix

Penn Badgley’s stalker-murderer Joe Goldberg has pulled up stakes after the explosive events of Season 3 (spoiler: Joe’s single again), moving to London and posing as unassuming professor Johnathan Moore. Falling in with “a circle of privileged douchebags” seems like the perfect cover for a manipulative monster like Joe, but a series of killings dubbed the “Eat the Rich” murders soon upends his plans to lay low and resume his obsession with Tati Gabrielle’s Marienne. The first half of You Season 4 drops Thursday, with the back half premiering on March 9.

Stolen Youth: Inside the Cult at Sarah Lawrence: Thursday, Hulu

This documentary series delves into the 2019 scandal that rocked Sarah Lawrence College, in which a student’s father moved in with a group of undergraduates and set up a coercive sex cult on the exclusive New York college’s campus. Featuring interviews with the students who escaped cult leader Larry Ray’s web of extortion and sex trafficking and harrowing footage of Ray’s manipulative, abusive methods, Stolen Youth crafts a chilling portrait of how, as Primetimer’s Joe Reid notes, “free-thinking, rational people can fall under the sway of a charismatic figure who convinces them to act in ways that both harm them and isolate them from their loved ones.”

The 1619 Project: Thursday, Hulu

As Black History Month begins, Nikole Hannah-Jones’ examination of how that history has been warped to exclude Black Americans and excuse white supremacy comes to an end with the final episode, “Justice.” The series rebuts the predictable white conservative outrage over Hannah-Jones’ groundbreaking work, an objective Stephen Robinson describes as “overtly patriotic” in his review for Primetimer.

Documentaries and Special Events

Bill Russell: Legend: Wednesday, Netflix

Former Boston Celtics star Bill Russell, who died in July 2022 at the age of 88, is the subject of this documentary that makes the case for Russell’s greatness not just on the basketball court (“More rings than fingers,” one commentator said of his record 11 championships), but also as a brave and defiant civil rights pioneer. Examining the deeply American paradox of being worshipped as an athlete by a society that denigrated him as a Black man, Bill Russell: Legend offers up a complex portrait of one of the greatest players and teammates in NBA history.

Marc Maron: From Bleak to Dark: Saturday, 10:00 PM ET on HBO

”I don’t want to be negative,” begins stand-up legend and noted pessimist Marc Maron in his first ever HBO special, “But I don’t think anything’s ever gonna get better ever again.” Fans of the acerbic comic know full well how Maron can spin the darkest subjects — here including mortality, hopelessness, and the 2020 death of his girlfriend, filmmaker Lynn Shelton — into unlikely laughs. Maybe not feel-good laughs, but laughs nonetheless.

Super Bowl LVII: Sunday, 6:30 PM on Fox

The Philadelphia Eagles play the Kansas City Chiefs in the 57th Super Bowl. For those more into extravagant musical numbers, Rihanna is this year’s halftime entertainment. For those interested in lavishly expensive commercials, this is your Super Bowl.
