After a lengthy trip at sea, the pirates of Our Flag Means Death return to Max this week for another season of queer romance and revenge. Plus: Tom Hiddleston's God of Mischief travels the multiverse in Loki Season 2, Desperately Seeking Soulmate: Escaping Twin Flames Universe explores the online cult, Mark-Paul Gosselaar and Shanola Hampton share a twisted history in NBC's Found, and more.
Tuesday, 10:00 PM ET on NBC
NBC's second freshman drama of the fall is significantly darker than its first (Jesse L. Martin's The Irrational). Found stars Shameless alum Shanola Hampton as Gabi Mosely, a crisis management specialist who runs a team dedicated to finding missing people who are overlooked by investigators and a media landscape that prioritizes the disappearances of white women. Gabi excels at her job due to her personal connection to the victims — she was abducted when she was 16 — but she's hiding a harrowing secret: She has struck up an uneasy alliance with her kidnapper (Mark-Paul Gosselaar) and uses his expertise to help solve her cases. The details of their relationship, past and present, makes for a shocking twist that powers Found through its cheesier (but always well-intentioned) moments. NBC also seems confident in Hampton and Gosselaar's connection, as the network ordered more scripts for Nkechi Okoro Carroll's drama back in January.

*Our must-watch pick of the week*
It's been a long journey for the pirates of the Revenge and their not-so-fearless leaders, Stede Bonnet (Rhys Darby) and Captain Blackbeard (Taika Waititi). The two fell in love over the course of Season 1, but the finale, which dropped in March 2022, left them separated on the high seas. Season 2 picks up in the aftermath of their breakup: As Stede attempts to find his way back to his lover, Blackbeard hides his devastation under his tough exterior and recommits to the brutal ways of piracy. Their pull remains undeniable, but after so much heartache, getting back together is easier said than done.
Our Flag Means Death Season 2 complements the romantic comedy of Stede and Blackbeard's relationship with more dramatic storylines about new threats to the crew, including a Royal Navy committed to ending piracy, once and for all. The Max comedy also introduces prominent historical figures like Irish pirate Anne Bonny (Minnie Driver), though creator David Jenkins continues to blur the line between fact and fiction when it comes to her role in the action. Max's delightfully ahistorical tale premieres Thursday with three episodes, followed by two every week through October 26.

Now that Marvel fans are familiar with the concept of the multiverse, Loki can really get going. With the MCU timeline splintered into dozens of alternate realities — which happened as a result of Sylvie (Sophia Di Martino) killing He Who Remains (Jonathan Majors) in the finale — Loki (Tom Hiddleston) finds himself worlds apart from Sylvie, Judge Renslayer (Gugu Mbatha-Raw), and Miss Minutes (Tara Strong). Alongside Mobius (Owen Wilson), Hunter B-15 (Wunmi Mosaku), and other Time Variance Authority agents, Loki travels the multiverse looking for his lost allies, but his search soon leads him into a dangerous battle for the soul of the TVA.
Loki's journey takes him to the depths of the TVA — where he meets Ke Huy Quan's tech wizard OB — and unexpected corners of the multiverse ranging from the 1889 Paris Exposition to a McDonald's kitchen. While his quest is deadly serious, Loki and Mobius' time-hopping ensures Season 2 maintains the quirky tone established by the show's debut outing, which afforded Hiddleston an opportunity to take his character in an exciting new direction.

Documentaries about cults tend to be backward-looking, but Desperately Seeking Soulmate takes viewers inside an insidious group that's getting larger by the day. Following the success of The Way Down: God, Greed, and the Cult of Gwen Shamblin, director Marina Zenovich explores Twin Flames Universe, an online community founded by Jeff and Shaleia Divine (born Jeff Ayan and Megan Plante). The couple promises that those who follow their methods will find their "harmonious twin flame union" — essentially, a god-given soulmate — but true love comes with a steep price tag. Members must pay thousands of dollars for access to video sessions with Jeff and Shaleia, who have been accused of encouraging followers to stalk their supposed twin flames and influencing members' sexual orientation and gender identities.
The three-part docuseries seeks to expose Jeff and Shaleia as opportunistic, unethical leaders, and journalist Alice Hines and a handful of former members effectively convey that message in emotional interviews. Their powerful testimony makes Twin Flames Universe's continued growth all the more frustrating, as there's no mistaking the group for anything but a cult preying on its vulnerable membership base.
