Looking for your next binge-watch, or just need to fill an hour? Welcome to Your Weekly Watch List, our curated collection of the best shows on television. Here’s what to watch from Sunday, May 28 through Saturday, June 3.
This week, your favorite shows take their cue from the Season 3 debut of I Think You Should Leave With Tim Robinson, as Succession and Barry take their final bow, while Yellowjackets and Ted Lasso head off to uncertain futures. These series are signing off in time to make the 2023 Emmys window, which closes on May 31, so expect to hear more from them come nomination day.
Sunday, 9:00 PM ET on HBO
After all the maneuvering, back-stabbing, and familial chicanery, the Roy family saga comes to an end in the Succession series finale. Following the funeral of Brian Cox’s imperious patriarch Logan, squabbling siblings Shiv (Sarah Snook), Roman, (Kieran Culkin), and Kendall (Jeremy Strong) gear up for one final power play in the wake of the questionably-called presidential election. With just 90 minutes to bring this tale of overweening ambition, wealth, and destructive corporate power in for a landing, Succession concludes its four-season balancing act of making viewers care about an unscrupulous family of plutocrats wielding disproportionate sway over the fate of the world.
Sunday, 9:00 PM ET on Showtime
Yellowjackets’ intertwined timelines come together in the Season 2 finale, in which the adult survivors of a long-ago plane crash assemble once more in the isolated wilderness to confront each other — and the dark secrets of what they did to survive. Melanie Lynskey, Christina Ricci, Juliette Lewis, Tawny Cypress, Lauren Ambrose, and the equally talented actresses playing their characters’ high school-aged selves prepare to collide in the past and present, as this acclaimed thriller reveals, once again, that desperate deeds won’t stay buried forever.
Sunday, 10:30 PM ET on HBO
Bill Hader’s hitman turned actor turned hitman Barry Berkman faces one final, no-win situation in the series finale of this universally lauded HBO series. With everyone he’s ever crossed — including the Chechen mob, the cops, former friends Fuches (Stephen Root) and NoHo Hank (Anthony Carrigan), and vengeful father Jim Moss (Robert Wisdom) — closing in, Barry has to find a way to save longtime love Sally (Sarah Goldberg), their son, and himself, all while coping with the psychological fallout from a life spent murdering people. (Meanwhile, Emmy winner Henry Winkler’s peerlessly sketchy acting guru Gene Cousineau squirms his way into another, perhaps fatal, dilemma.)
In the first of two finales this week featuring former Saturday Night Live funnymen showing off their unexpectedly devastating dramatic chops, Barry’s tragicomic tale of violence and possible redemption looks to go out with a bang.
Tuesday, Netflix (Full Season)
Former Saturday Night Live writer/performer Tim Robinson pitched all his brilliantly loony ideas for SNL’s 10-to-one spot, where weird conceptual sketches are exiled. Luckily, Netflix gave Robinson his own dedicated playground for cringe comedy goodness in I Think You Should Leave With Tim Robinson, which returns for its third season this week. Look for similarly out-there guest stars like Tim Meadows, Fred Armisen, Sam Richardson, and Ayo Edebiri to join in on the bizarre fun.
Wednesday, Apple TV+
Here’s the second SNL alum’s final bow of the week, as Jason Sudeikis’ transplanted American football coach readies AFC Richmond for the Premiere League championship. Ted appears ready to head back to Kansas and his son, Henry (Gus Turner), but that’s all guesswork: Sudeikis and co-creators Bill Lawrence, Brendan Hunt, and Joe Kelly have remained cagey about what happens to Ted Lasso (and Ted Lasso) after the conclusion of their planned, three-season fish-out-of-water sports comedy. Regardless, after last week’s extra-long penultimate episode provided tantalizing clues about the ongoing stories of the series’s beloved roster of characters (including Phil Dunster’s MVP Jamie Tartt), fans are on the edge of their seats as they await both the perennial underdogs’ final match and the fate of one of TV’s feel-good favorites.
