What is the plot of Ballard Season 1?

Detective Renée Ballard was introduced in Bosch: Legacy's finale having reached out to Harry Bosch (Titus Welliver) for assistance on a cold case she was investigating. In the new show, she becomes the head of the LAPD's underbudgeted cold case unit.

Armed with grit and compassion, Ballard will be solving some of the department's oldest cold cases. The official description is as follows:

"As she peels back layers of crimes spanning decades, including a serial killer's string of murders and a murdered John Doe, she soon uncovers a dangerous conspiracy within the LAPD. With the help of her volunteer team and retired detective Harry Bosch (Titus Welliver), Detective Ballard navigates personal trauma, professional challenges, and life-threatening dangers to expose the truth."

Who is in the cast of Ballard Season 1?

Maggie Q stars as Detective Renée Ballard, the forceful and empathetic head of the under-funded and under-staffed cold case division of the Los Angeles Police Department. Q started her career as an actress in Hong Kong before landing roles in Hollywood productions like Mission: Impossible III and Designated Survivor.

Titus Welliver again plays Harry Bosch, a former LAPD investigator and private detective. Welliver played Harry in Bosch and Bosch: Legacy. The actor is also well-known for his acting in Lost, Deadwood, and Sons of Anarchy.

John Carroll Lynch is a retired police partner named Thomas Laffont who assists Ballard in breaking the cold cases. Lynch has starred in several well-known movies, including Shutter Island, Crazy, Stupid, Love and Ted 2.

Courtney Taylor appears as Samira Parker, a former LAPD officer who was underappreciated in the role and is hired by Ballard to help out in the cold case unit. Taylor most recently appeared in the comedy TV series Neon and the coming-of-age movie Out of My Mind.

Michael Mosley, Amy Hill, Rebecca Field, Victoria Moroles, Alain Uy, Hector Hugo, Ricardo Chavira and Noah Bean also appear in supporting roles on the series.

Ballard Season 1 will be streaming on Prime Video from July 9, 2025.
