How did Discord lose her immortality in The Old Guard 2? All about the character in the latest film

Old Guard 2 dropped on Netflix on July 2, 2025, nearly a half decade after the first film dropped. It continues from where the previous one had stopped, with Andy losing her immortality and Booker betraying the team. This time, there is a new threat in the form of Andy's old immortal partner, Quynh, who seeks revenge and collaborates with another immortal, Discord.

Early on, it seems that Discord is only interested in preventing other immortals from assisting others. As the novel winds its way to its conclusion, Andy and Discord engage each other in an ultimate showdown wherein the latter discloses that she is no longer an immortal since they projected her to be one.

The reason why she is no longer immortal isn't that surprising, given that Andy had been in a similar predicament before. The question on everyone's mind is how Discord lost her powers.

The rest of the immortals believe that the abilities some of them have may have ended and that is why they become mortal. But maybe the case of Discord will be different because she has the same birthmark as Nile, who is the youngest immortal.

Discord appears to have lost her immortality fairly recently, which implies that she might have lost it around the same time that Nile gained it. Discord also points this out, saying that her being the oldest immortal and Nile being the youngest ties them together.

Discord is known to be one of the oldest immortals to walk on Earth. She is estimated to be 9000 years old and is not a fan of humanity, unlike Andy and her team. Once Discord realized that humans would come after her if they were to find out that she is different from them, she decided to amass as much wealth and influence as possible.

All that wealth and influence would be of no use to her if she were to end up a human. So, Discord desperately wants to become an immortal again. For that, she needs Nile, who is the only immortal with the ability to take away another immortal's powers.

In The Old Guard 2, viewers also learn that an immortal who has recently lost their powers can transfer them to another immortal. For instance, Booker deliberately takes a blow from Nile so that he can lose his powers. Later, he quietly passes on those powers to Andy, who had lost her own in the first film.

Will The Old Guard 2 have a sequel?

The Old Guard 2 ended with a major cliffhanger as Discord kidnapped Nile, Copley, Joe, Tuah, and Nicky and left in a helicopter. Andy nursed Quynh back to health, and the latter promised to help Andy to rescue her teammates. This sets up a potential third film.

In an interview with Entertainment Weekly on July 2, 2025, director Victoria Mahoney spoke about the potential for The Old Guard 3.

"I genuinely don't know. I don't know what's going on outside this room. So I have no idea. I hope for it, and I hope that audiences get it, and I hope everyone that goes to play on that third one has a ball and kicks ass and I'll be rooting for them. I won't be there, but I will be rooting for them. Sincerely, vigorously," Mahoney said.
