In The Summer I Turned Pretty Season 3, although Belly's relationship with Jeremiah has taken the center stage, whether or not he will end up her ride or die remains to be seen. Things took a turn for the worse in the first episode itself, thanks to Jeremiah, who was revealed to have cheated on his beloved girlfriend.
By the end of the second episode, Belly not only gave Jeremiah a second chance but also said yes to his marriage proposal. The Summer I Turned Pretty Season 3 episode 3 opens with Billie Eilish's Birds of a Feather playing in the background while Jeremiah and Belly cuddle in bed. Just as Belly is about to leave for her meetup with Taylor, Jeremiah proposes to her with a ring.
The newly-engaged couple decides to disclose the news to their family at Sussanah's memorial. They change their mind on their way to a family lunch on Memorial Day. Despite this, when Adam's condescending toast to Jeremiah gets under Belly's skin, she ends up announcing their engagement at the lunch.
The first person to learn about Belly and Jeremiah's engagement in The Summer I Turned Pretty Season 3 is Taylor, whose initial reaction is quite cold. Belly's revelation surprises Taylor, who chokes on her chocolate croissant upon hearing the news. When Belly says that Taylor is the one who told her to get back together with Jeremiah, Taylor befittingly points out that the couple had been together for all of 30 seconds before getting engaged.
Belly gets upset with Taylor and leaves when her father arrives to pick her up. Later, Taylor comes to Belly's home and apologizes to her for reacting harshly. The girls go to Belly's room, where Belly shows Taylor her ring and asks her if she would like to be her maid of honor. Taylor says yes and pulls out their dream wedding scrap, which they flip through together.
Things do not go that well when Belly suddenly reveals the news of the engagement at lunch with Jeremiah, Laurel, Steven, Adam, and Conrad, and also that they are planning to get married in August. Laurel freaks out and tells her that Belly and Jeremiah should move in together and foster a cat if they want to take the next step in their relationship.
Adam assumes Belly is pregnant, which makes Laurel even more anxious. Steven says the whole thing is delusional, insane, and wild. Adam asks Jeremiah what he has dragged Belly into, and also lets him know that he will not be getting his mother's ring, not that Jeremiah expected that for a second.
At this point, the only one maintaining any decorum at the table is Conrad, who is stunned into silence by the revelation. The only time he speaks is to inform Steven that he did not know about this.
The meal ends before it started as Laurel calls it off and asks for the check. She demands that Belly come home with her, although they had decided that Belly would stay at Cousins Beach with Jeremiah for the summer. Jeremiah suggests that Bely should go back home as it will buy them some time to cool things down. At the end of the episode, Conrad is the only one in the restaurant's parking lot, while Radiohead's Surprises plays in the background.
Taylor comes back home to find out that Lucinda has broken up with her boyfriend and also got a new TV. Lucinda tells Taylor that out of all the guys she has dated so far, Steven is the only one who deserves her, and so she should not let go of him easily. The next morning, during her visit to the Conklins' place, Taylor's attempt to talk to Steven is not as fruitful as she had hoped.
When Taylor returns home with a long face, Lucinda decides to take matters into her own hands and calls Steven to ask for help with her salon's finances. Lucinda suggests that Steven come over and discuss it with Taylor. However, Steven tells her to send the files over email.
Before leaving for Sussanah's memorial, Steven rings up Taylor to inform her that Lucinda's finances are looking bad. In fact, at this rate, she is only going to last a month. He offers to help Lucinda file for a loan. Despite her shocked state, Taylor says she will do it herself.
Lucinda had been letting her ex-boyfriend deal with the finances, and it turns out that he messed it all up. Initially, Taylor is mad at her mother, but eventually assures her that she will help her fix this.
