Pastor Marvin Winans has been creating headlines ever since he criticized a woman for the amount she donated to the church. A video of the entire moment is being reposted on multiple pages on social media.
The viral clip also led to heavy criticism against Winans. My Mixtapez shared a glimpse of the same on X (formerly Twitter) on October 20, 2025, which revealed the woman’s name as Roberta McCoy. She announced the donation as “$1,000 plus $235”, which immediately led to a response from Winans, who said:
“Now that’s only $1,200. Y’all not listening to what I’m saying. If you have a thousand plus a thousand….”
While the woman’s reply was not clearly heard in the video, Marvin Winans stated:
“Well, that ain’t what I asked you to do.”
The woman then turned back and had a smile on her face. As of this writing, Winans has not responded to the criticism emerging on different platforms. The gospel singer has been a part of a group called The Winans and later established The Perfecting Church. Moreover, he boasts a fortune of almost $5 million, as per Celebrity Net Worth.
Netizens reacted to Marvin Winans’ response on X, with one of them saying that a “true man of God” is well aware of the fact that Jesus gets angry when people use the church for other benefits.
“If Marvin Winans was a true man of God, he would know the only time Jesus angry in the Bible is when people used the church to personally profit off parishioners. The prosperity gospel is straight-up blasphemous,” @Hopeful_Voyage wrote.
A similar response was shared by another individual, saying that many people are using the “Bible” for their benefit.
“Marvin Winans using his arrogance on the pulpit to get $2,000 doesn’t even shock me. It’s too many so-called preachers out here robbing vulnerable church ppl everyday. Using the bible to build their own empire and kingdom,” @_RareDefined commented.
One of the responses featured the user criticizing Marvin for his response, considering that he has a big net worth.
“Marvin Winans has a net worth of $5 million. Some of these pastors live in big homes and fly in private jets. But telling the congregation to donate $2k for a new church,” @SabbySabs2 said.
A user even claimed that she would have preferred not to donate an amount to the church.
“And Marvin Williams got some damn nerve blasting that church member. Times are hard especially in this economy, I would’ve snatched my $1200 back and went on my way. “And the church question is. Will I be giving to his church again? The answer is, NO NO NO NO NO… NO NO NO!!,”” @___bjw___ stated.
Marvin Winans has accumulated a lot of wealth over the years: Career and other details explained
The Detroit, Michigan native has become a popular face for his association with The Winans. Despite being born to a musical family, there was a restriction on secular music in his house when he was a child.
Notably, Marvin Winans’ teachings did not stop inside the boundary of the church, and he worked as an activist for certain issues that have existed in society for a long time. As mentioned earlier, he is also known for forming the Perfecting Church, where he has been a pastor.
During a conversation with the Michigan Chronicle around two years ago, Winans opened up on how the music that he heard on Woodingham St. impacted him and said:
“We grew up right in the heart of Motown, when Motown was in Motown. So, for my father to take such a stand, it wasn’t that we couldn’t hear it, but we couldn’t bring it in in the house. Being so musically inclined, you hear those melodies and you can’t get them out of your head.”
Marvin even referred to the changes that have happened in society, including the addiction of children to Marvel. He claimed that those kids are hardly aware of anything about the Bible because it is never considered to be important.
Celebrity Net Worth stated that Winans started his musical journey with a group called The Testimonial Singers. The band changed its name to The Winans, which brought them into the spotlight. He has some solo projects in his credits, including Alone, But Not Alone and The Praise + Worship Experience.
Marvin has additionally contributed to the albums of The Winans, such as Long Time Comin’, Let My People Go, Decisions, Return, All Out, Heart & Soul, and more
