The Hunting Wives premiered on Netflix on July 21, 2025. Based on May Cobb’s bestselling novel under the same name, the series is about the fictional small town in East Texas, Maple Brook. This eight-episode series features a drama about Sophie, a young mother who gets drawn into a web of scandal.

The Hunting Wives takes place in East Texas, but most of the show was shot in North Carolina. The production team used North Carolina's natural beauty to bring the made-up town of Maple Brook to life. The filming locations, from peaceful lakeside getaways to charming small-town streets, helped set the creepy tone of the show.

Several North Carolina locations were used following the feel of a small Texas town. These places include downtown Mooresville, the scenic trails of Richfield Park, and the luxurious retreat at Lake Norman.

Filming locations of The Hunting Wives

    Downtown Mooresville, North Carolina

The picturesque streets of Downtown Mooresville were transformed into the fictional Maple Brook, Texas. Located just north of Charlotte, Mooresville offered the perfect blend of small-town charm and southern appeal. Sophie is seen strolling through local stores and visiting the farmers market, bringing the tight-knit town atmosphere to life in the opening episode.

Falcon Trail Trailhead, Richfield, in North Carolina

The Falcon Trail Trailhead, located in Richfield Park, provided the perfect setting for the series' nature-driven scenes. The dense woods and tranquil surroundings of the trail captured the essence of suspense and isolation. Situated about 15 miles east of Mooresville, the rugged outskirts of Maple Brook enhance the series' hunting-themed elements. The solitude of Falcon Trail fits perfectly with the dark side of the story.

Azalea Retreat at Lake Norman, Sherrills Ford in North Carolina

In The Hunting Wives, Azalea Retreat at Lake Norman is a primary location. This lakeside retreat is located about 45 miles north of Charlotte in Sherrills Ford. The luxurious and serene environment of the retreat turned into the wives' weekend getaways. The intimate atmosphere of the retreat connects with the dark secrets and tension that brewed between the characters.

Dilworth Tasting Room, Charlotte, North Carolina

For the upscale social gatherings in The Hunting Wives, the Dilworth Tasting Room in Charlotte is a sophisticated backdrop. The modern vibe of the tasting room made the social events look more happening, such as a fundraiser in episode one. The location's intimate setting enhances the lurking danger that follows social circles' Maple Brook.

    Coyote Joe’s, Charlotte, North Carolina

Coyote Joe's, a real-life bar in Charlotte, was used to depict the go-to hangout spot in Maple Brook. In episodes one and seven, the characters are seen socializing, relaxing, drinking, and dancing to some country music. The lively, neon-lit atmosphere of Coyote Joe's brings in southern charm.

Pie in the Sky, Mooresville, North Carolina

Another real location featured in the series is Pie in the Sky, a local pizzeria in Mooresville. The pizzeria depicts a high school job for Jamie. In episode seven, Sophie converses with Jamie at Pie in the Sky. The pizza joint’s presence helped the community give a feel of the town. It somehow presented how seemingly ordinary locations can hold dangerous secrets.

    Plot of The Hunting Wives

The Hunting Wives follows Sophie. Sophie is from Boston and moves to East Texas with her husband Graham in The Hunting Wives. She meets Margo, a wealthy and seductive woman who leads a group of beautiful but dangerous women. She gets involved in the lives of Margo, Callie, Jill, and the rest of the group as she wants to fit in. Abby, a teenage girl, is killed in the woods near Margo's lake house, and Sophie is the main suspect.

Sophie is drawn further into the mystery as the investigation goes on. This reveals the town's most influential people. Margo killed Abby to hide the fact that she had an abortion, which is later found out. She then changes the situation to hide her crime. As the season goes on, more people die. Jill kills Abby's mother, Starr, and Callie shoots Jill after a tense argument. Kyle, Margo's brother, is the last person to be killed. Sophie trips him up when he tries to threaten her, which kills him.

At the same time, it comes out that Pastor Pete has a bad history with the girls in his youth group. He is being looked into for his part in Abby's death and other crimes, but he kills himself before he can be arrested. This caused the people who were left behind a lot of trauma.

At the end of the season, Sophie is accused of murder but still tells the truth and hides her deepest secrets. This sets the stage for more suspense in later episodes.
