“The fan support and love for Anne With an E is overwhelming, heartening, and wonderful — how I love these Kindred Spirits,” creator Moira Walley-Beckett said in a statement to EW, responding to the nearly one million #renewannewithane tweets in response to Monday's cancelation. “This proves to me how much this show has connected with a diverse audience around the world and how meaningful it is to everyone. I am incredibly proud of these three seasons. Creating Anne With an E was an amazing experience — it was my heart project and I gave all of myself to it. I’m so grateful to my extraordinary cast, crew, writers, and directors for passionately bringing my vision to life.” She added: “I will miss this show forever and a day. That being said, I’d love to write an AWAE finale feature film…”

Why Anne With an E matters: "To see one of my favorite books being adapted in such a beautiful way, inclusive and different while still staying true to the creative magic of the original books, is what made Anne With an E the best adaptation of the property since the 1985 version," says Princess Weekes. "It pushed the boundaries of what a period drama usually gets to be, and for that alone, I’d be grateful, but the way it also did the historical work to broaden Avonela makes it one of the absolute best things Netflix has to offer. A children’s series that didn’t talk down to children is something we need more of, and if no one decides to carry on this series, I’m glad we had these seasons."
Anne With an E's cancelation spawned confusing hashtags #renewawae and #renewannewithane: "Earlier (Monday), '#renewawae' was trending in the United States, but if you don’t know what the show is, it makes it look like everyone’s talking about someone named Rene Wawae," says Sam Barsanti. "The more popular hashtag, 'renewannewithane,' is slightly better, but it still looks like Rene Wannewithane or Renew Anne Withane or maybe RE: New Annew Ithane? Netflix should renew Anne With An E, but also it should respond to that email about the New Annew Ithane. We’ve had enough problems with the old Annew Ithane."
