Empire's renewal two weeks ago for Season 6 will be its last pickup, Fox announced this morning. “We are turning the final season into a large TV event, we are trying to go out guns a blazing,” said Fox Entertainment CEO Charlie Collier in an upfronts conference call. “You allow fans to lean in and have the ending they deserve." Collier had no update on whether Jussie Smollett will be back for Season 6. "There’s an option to have Jussie in the series but we have no plans for that,” he said. For its final season, Empire will move back to its original Tuesday at 9 p.m. timeslot, where it will go up against This Is Us. The new timeslot isn't likely to be good news for Empire, which saw series lows in the aftermath of the Smollett scandal.
