The four-part docuseries Lorena will re-examine the notorious John Wayne and Lorena Bobbitt scandal from a #MeToo perspective. In 1993, the married couple made headlines around the world after she cut off his penis with a knife while he was sleeping, and threw it in a field. She later accused him of raping her earlier in the evening, and was ultimately found not guilty due to insanity. “Lost in the tabloid coverage and jokes was the opportunity for a national discussion on domestic and sexual assault in America,” says Amazon in announcing the docuseries. "When we hear the name ‘Bobbitt’ we think of one of the most sensational incidents to ever be catapulted into a full blown media spectacle," added Peele, who will produce the docuseries. "With this project, Lorena has a platform to tell her truth as well as engage in a critical conversation about gender dynamics, abuse, and her demand for justice. This is Lorena’s story and we’re honored to help her tell it."
