The TV icon and three-time Emmy winner said it was a "great kick" to be nominated for Live in Front of a Studio Audience: Norman Lear's All in the Family and The Jeffersons, which earned three nominations for Outstanding Directing for a Variety Special, Outstanding Production Design for a Variety Special and Variety Special (Live). Coincidentally, Lear's last nomination was for an All in the Family 20th anniversary special in 1991. “My friend Carl Reiner — we kind of grew up together in the industry and the world — was nominated last year,” Lear tells Deadline. “At the time, he was proud to be the oldest guy with an Emmy nomination. I think I may beat him this year! I’m getting a big kick out of that.” As for future specials, nothing is confirmed. But Lear teased: “There is more than one — several if not many."
