De Niro's "F*ck Trump" outburst at the Tonys led to not one but two Op-Eds in the Washington Post criticizing his use of profanity, including one that said it "could do a lot of collateral damage." The New York Times also ran a column criticizing De Niro, titled "How to Lose the Midterms and Re-elect Trump." To which Drew Magary says calls about decorum from De Niro and Bee are delusional: "Keep in mind that Robert De Niro isn’t a politician, and has no obligation to voters. Nor is Samantha Bee, who was targeted by a clockwork bad-faith campaign from the right when she called Ivanka Trump a feckless c*nt in public." He adds: "Literally two people, who don’t even hold public office, have the temerity to be publicly angry at the Trump administration, and somehow that’s enough to merit an Emily Post course in dinner table conversation from the fartsniffer set."
