According to The Daily Beast, "frenzied viewers wondering 'WHAT DID ROBERT DE NIRO SAY???' promptly flooded Twitter, and thankfully a handful of reporters in the audience obliged." Several reporters explained what De Niro and the context in which he said it. Another reporter pointed out that the profanity was aired uncensored on the Australian feed. Even though The Hollywood Reporter's Scott Feinberg called it an "Amazing live TV moment," the Tonys were aired on brief delay on CBS throughout much of the country and on a three-hour delay on the West Coast. De Niro was the only presenter to bash President Trump on stage at the ceremony.
