Days after the Days of Our Lives cast members were reportedly released from their contracts, Saturday Night Live paid a tribute of sorts with a "Days of Our Impeachment" cold open. The soap opera sketch featured a Jon Hamm cameo as Ambassador Bill Taylor. The sketch also gave a shout-out to another NBC institution: NBC News, which was criticized for tweeting that the first day of the impeachment hearings lacked "pizazz." During the sketch, Hamm’s Taylor announced a “bombshell revelation” that “there was a second phone call,” after which Kate McKinnon joined the sketch as Rudy Giuliani, who noted that “Mercury’s in retrograde so my powers are at an all-time high.” McKinnon’s Giuliani also added that he has an insurance policy against the president: “I’m going to die in a mysterious boat explosion.”
