The untitled potential Empire spinoff will likely follow Cookie as she moves to Los Angeles, according to The Hollywood Reporter, which adds that the show may feature some of her other family members. The spinoff is expected to help Empire have a proper conclusion after its abrupt series finale earlier this year following the coronavirus shutdown. Danny Strong, who co-created Empire, is teaming with the show's co-executive producers Yolonda Lawrence and Stacy Littlejohn in co-creating the Cookie spinoff. All three will serve as showrunners, with Henson also serving as an executive producer. The spinoff is part of Henson's two-year first-look deal with Fox. "I believe that normalizing stories around stigmatizing matters will make them more palatable for audiences to embrace," Henson said of her first-look deal. "Art can change perception and I plan to develop projects that can help further the conversation. I also aim to help cultivate and establish new young talent and their stories because they are our future and deserve a voice and a platform to be heard."
