Kung Fu, from Blindspot writer Christina M. Kim, is inspired by the original 1972-1975 martial arts series starring David Carradine and created by Ed Spielman. The new Kung Fu tells the story of a young Chinese-American woman who drops out of college and goes through a life-changing journey in an isolated Chinese monastery. When she returns to her hometown, she finds it overrun with crime and corruption and uses her martial arts skills and Shaolin values to protect her community. The Republic of Sarah is based on last year's CBS pilot of the same name starring Sara Drew as a small-town mayor of a town that declares itself an independent nation. The CW pilot won't star Drew and will shift the premise slightly, making the character a rebellious high school teacher who declares her imperiled town is an independent nation.
