Paramount, Disney, Netflix, and Comcast announced on Friday that they will cover travel costs for employees seeking abortions in the wake of the Supreme Court overturning Roe v. Wade.
In a company-wide email sent out on Friday morning, Disney said it "remains committed removing barriers and providing comprehensive access to quality and affordable care for all of our employees, cast members and their families, including family planning and reproductive care, no matter where they live."
The email, obtained by Primetimer, continues: "In fact, we have processes in place so that an employee who may be unable to access care in one location has affordable coverage for receiving similar levels of care in another location. This travel benefit covers medical situations related to cancer treatments, transplants, rare disease treatment and family planning (including pregnancy-related decisions)."
Variety reports that Netflix is also offering "travel reimbursement coverage for full-time U.S. employees and their dependents who need to travel for cancer treatment, transplants, gender affirming care, or abortion – through our U.S. health plans." Through this coverage, employees have a $10,000 lifetime allowance.
Variety also confirmed Comcast, which owns NBCUniversal, has a travel benefit covering employees' medical services and procedures that aren't available near their place of residence.
Paramount sent a memo to employees as well confirming that the company would cover travel costs for abortions.
In the memo, Paramount said they would cover "reproductive health care through company-sponsored health insurance, including coverage for birth control, elective abortion care, miscarriage care and certain related travel expenses if the covered health service, such as abortion, is prohibited in your area."
Other media companies have not yet released any information regarding the coverage of travel costs for reproductive healthcare.
