Jake Tapper won't lead CNN's 9 p.m. hour for much longer.
After taking over Chris Cuomo's coveted primetime spot in October, Tapper is set to return to his daytime show following the midterms.
"As part of a special lineup, Jake agreed to anchor the 9 p.m. hour through the midterm elections," said a CNN spokesperson. "At the completion of that schedule, he’ll be returning to his award-winning program The Lead. We will announce post-election plans for that time slot in the coming days."
CNN Tonight has been without a permanent host since disgraced anchor Cuomo's ousting last year. While Tapper's takeover was seen as something of a test run for the position, the anchor reportedly was hesitant to move into primetime due to the schedule demands. Tapper has hosted The Lead since 2013.
Tapper will resume hosting The Lead on November 11.
