CBS is considering replacing James Corden with a panel of comedians when the host exits The Late Late Show in 2023, Variety reports.

According to three sources who spoke with Variety, CBS is mindful of the shifting nature of late night and believes a panel with multiple hosts would draw viewers, both in The Late Late Show's 12:30 AM ET time slot and on digital platforms. In addition to a panel, other ideas being explored include removing the show's live band, though sources note that discussions are in the early stages, and executives at both CBS and Paramount Global are considering a wide range of options.

Ratings for late night television may be in decline, but Corden's seat remains a hot commodity: Variety also reports that CBS has already been approached by representatives for stars hoping to fill Corden's seat.

CBS declined to comment on any potential changes to The Late Late Show.

Corden first announced plans to leave The Late Late Show in late April. He will remain on the CBS property throughout the 2022-2023 season before saying goodbye for good next summer.

The Late Late Show With James Corden airs weeknights at 12:35 AM ET on CBS.
