The January 6 Committee has scheduled a surprise hearing for Tuesday. The move is unexpected, as the announcement was made with less than 24 hours’ notice, Congress is not in session, and the committee was set to be on break until after the recess.
The House select committee announced that the new hearing would be held "to present recently obtained evidence and receive witness testimony." It was not revealed what new evidence will be presented or who the new witness is, but the news comes after the committee began examining and analyzing footage from Alex Holder's upcoming documentary Unprecendented. The British filmmaker had access to Trump and his family throughout January.
Each of the major broadcast and cable networks are set to air the last-minute hearing, including ABC, CBS, NBC, FOX, CNN, and MSNBC. Regular programming will be suspended to air the hearing live.
The broadcast will air beginning at 1 PM ET on Tuesday.
