Watch out, Whoopi Goldberg: there's a new EGOT coming to daytime talk.
Premiering later this month in the daytime slot formerly occupied by Ellen DeGeneres, The Jennifer Hudson Show is set to see the Emmy, Oscar, Grammy and Tony winner take on a familiar face: fellow American Idol alum Kelly Clarkson.
But as Hudson reveals in a new interview with the Los Angeles Times, those hoping for a new Dave vs Jay-style rivalry between the two dynamos will be sorely disappointed.
Hudson describes Clarkson offering her support and advice after her new show was announced, and says she "doesn't feel any competition" with Clarkson, with whom she's always felt a connection.
"We're two very talkative individuals," she explains "We just performed together recently, and I don’t know if we did more talking [or] singing. We came into the industry the same way."
Hudson added she's also tight with Tamron Hall and Sherri Shepard, against whom she'll also be competing. "We're all supporting each other," she explains.
As for what we can expect from Hudson's new show, Hudson says she's not one much for planning.
"I like a more organic approach," she explains. "The questions will be inspired by my curiosity. It depends on the energy in the room. An audience member may become the guest. They may become the performer. I want people to feel comfortable, and I want to cover life. We’re not always going to feel upbeat every day. We may be struggling. I’ve been through the highest of the highs, the lowest of the lows and everything in between, and I want the show to reflect that."
The Jennifer Hudson Show premieres in syndication September 12th.
