After more than a decade of promoting the Jersey Shore brand, the OG cast members of the hit MTV reality series are pushing back against the network's new reboot, Jersey Shore 2.0.
In a joint statement released on their Twitter accounts, Mike "The Situation" Sorrentino, Nicole "Snooki" Polizzi, Jennifer "JWoww" Farley, Paul "Pauly D" DelVecchio, Vinny Guadagnino, and Angelina Pivarnick revealed their distaste for the network's desire to bring new characters to the shore.
"As a cast that took a chance with a network in need," the statement reads, "We put our most vulnerable moments on television for the world to see. We gave our all over the past 13 years, became a family and continue to open our lives for the world. So please understand that we are not in support of a version that will exploit our original show, our hard work and authenticity to gain viewers."
The statement also included the group's anti-Jersey Shore 2.0 hashtag, #WeAreJerseyShore.
Although the Jersey Shore cast may not support MTV's reboot, their joint statement ended with a plug for their own sequel, Jersey Shore Family Vacation, which was renewed for a sixth season on MTV.
Jersey Shore 2.0 was announced on Wednesday, with MTV revealing that the new series will feature a "new group of roommates moving into their own shore house." The network's announcement added that the new cast will have "traded their poofs for plumped pouts and UV rays for spray tans," a subtle nod to how long it's been since the original series debuted in 2009. The newcomers will likely be younger, single, and more marketable to a new generation of reality TV fans.
Select seasons of Jersey Shore Family Vacation can be streamed on Hulu and Paramount+.
