The Saudi-backed LIV Golf series came to Trump National Golf Club in New Jersey this past weekend, but crowds were sparse on the golf course.
The Morning Joe panel discussed the event on MSNBC on Monday, saying, "For all the focus on the tournament that was hosted by a former president obsessed with crowd sizes, there were — oh my God, look at that. Oh my God! There's no crowd" exclaimed Brzezinski, adding "There was literally nobody in attendance compared to the draw for PGA events."
"It’s kind of sad," remarked Scarborough. "It kind of looks like some of the shots on the site of the mall during the inauguration."
Brzezinski went on to read a New York Times article stating that "attendance for Sunday's final round was substantially improved from the meager gatherings that turned out for the first two rounds — often there had been only about 30 people surrounding a green — but the total number of fans on the grounds Sunday was no more than several thousand."
And tickets for the event were available for as little as $1, despite Trump being in attendance.
"It does seem to reflect a lack of enthusiasm for this project, to be sure, but also, perhaps, the former president," said news anchor Jonathan Lemire. "He of course lent his star power, if you will, to this effort, and it didn't seem to be much in the way of a draw."
Morning Joe airs weekdays at 6:00 AM on MSNBC.
