Just before 7 AM on Wednesday, Fox 32 Chicago was broadcasting live when a man pointed what appears to be a gun at the TV news crew. At the time, the crew was reporting on gun violence in the city, which increased by 66% from 2019 to 2021, for Good Day Chicago.
Reporter Joanie Lum was on air when the man walked behind her and pointed what looks like a small handgun towards the camera. Afterwards, the man walked away and skipped down the street, still holding the item that was assumed to be a gun. No one was hurt in the incident, but police are currently searching for the suspect, deeming him a "person of interest."
The incident comes after Tuesday's elementary school shooting in Uvalde, Texas, in which a shooter killed 21 people, 19 of them children.
