Chase Stokes Honors His Outer Banks Stand-In Following Hit-and-Run Accident

The cast and crew of Netflix's Outer Banks are grieving after Alexander "AJ" Jennings, a stand-in on the series, was killed early Tuesday morning in a hit-and-run accident in South Carolina, where the show is currently filming its third season. Jennings was 22.

According to the Charleston County Sheriff's Office, Jennings was struck by a vehicle around 2:30 AM ET on a Charleston road. The vehicle fled the scene before Jennings was struck by a second vehicle, which also left the area. The second vehicle was located during a traffic stop, but the driver of the first vehicle has not yet been identified.

Jennings was remembered by his talent agency, Kimmie Stewart Casting, as a "beautiful, kind soul & a bright light every day." The agency said on Facebook that Jennings had moved from New York to Charleston, South Carolina to be a photo double and stand-in for Outer Banks' lead character John B., played by actor Chase Stokes.

Stokes honored his stand-in on social media, posting on his Instagram story, "Still trying to process why certain things happen, and why the world works in the ways that it does. My heart is shattered."

"Your life was just starting," he continued. "We JUST talked about how pumped you were about your tunes, how far you'd come with that ole 6 string and your want to keep creating art. Always always making others hearts warm and being so damn selfless."

Stokes went on to say that the last day has been "a struggle" for the cast and crew. He continued, "We all love you, you touched all of our lives and made us all better people and for that, thank you AJ. Fly high angel."
