P-Valley writer and co-executive producer Patrik-Ian Polk is standing up for the show amid homophobic criticism from rapper Lil Duval. Fans praised the drama's commitment to LGBTQ+ representation after it featured a gay sex scene in a recent episode, but Lil Duval, a rapper and comedian, reacted with a slew of homophobic remarks, saying the scene "lost" him.
"They need a super gay advisory on movies like they got for everything else. Cuz That’s a lot to see if u not use to it," tweeted Lil Duval.
Polk didn't mince words when he retweeted Lil Duval and condemned the rapper's remarks. "As a writer and producer of P Valley, specifically a writer of this episode, I encourage you to step away from Chucalissa," he said, referencing the fictional Mississippi town where the show is set. "This show is not for you. Go watch something else. Cuz the gay ain’t goin’ nowhere."
Polk continued, "I'm kidding, of course. In all seriousness, if you find the show too uncomfortable to watch, you're welcome to change the channel and watch something else. But why feel the need to come online and spew your homophobic nonsense? We don't care!"
In another tweet, Polk urged those "triggered by these gay love scenes" to "do the work" and "look inward."
The reality is: a lot of these “straight”men are triggered by these gay love scenes. Watching them brings up questions they have about their own sexuality. That ain’t got nothing to do with us or #PValley. Do the work; look inward!

Polk concluded his defense of P-Valley's inclusiveness by tweeting, "It's important to see these gay black love scenes on television. So when idiots come online criticizing the fact that the scenes exist, we have a problem. And it's time to gay-regulate. PERIODT."
New episodes of P-Valley air Sundays at 10:00 PM ET on Starz.
