Queer Eye has affected so many lives, from those featured on the series to viewers at home, but it's also had a huge impact on host Karamo Brown, who credits the show with helping him reconnect to his estranged father.
In a new interview with his co-hosts, Antoni Porowski, Bobby Berk, and Jonathan Van Ness, on the "Variety Awards Circuit" podcast, he revealed, "My father and I have not talked for 18 years, and we recently connected."
"My father is a Caribbean man. The reason we fell out is because his attitude towards homosexuality or the trans community is negative and has been," Brown explained. "And he tried to cloak it in this mask of it's about God."
The emotional moment between father and son occurred while they were watching Queer Eye Season 6 on vacation. During Episode 2, which features Angel Flores, a 22-year-old transgender powerlifter and coach, Brown said, "[My father] turned to me and said, 'This the first time I've ever watched a trans person or seen a trans person.'"
After watching Flores' journey, which depicted an emotional moment with her own father, Brown said his father gained a new perspective.
"He turned to me and said, 'I get it. She deserves respect and she deserves love,'" he said.
