The feud between Donald Trump and Rosie O'Donnell has only grown bitter since it began two decades ago. In the recent turn of events, the President has threatened to revoke the talk show host/comedian’s US citizenship, who relocated to Ireland earlier this year. Trump took his TruthSocial account and mentioned O'Donnell on Saturday, July 12. He wrote,
“Because of the fact that Rosie O’Donnell is not in the best interests of our Great Country, I am giving serious consideration to taking away her Citizenship.”
He added,
“She is a Threat to Humanity, and should remain in the wonderful Country of Ireland, if they want her. GOD BLESS AMERICA!”
For those unaware, the beef between Donald Trump and Rosie O'Donnell began back in 2006, when the latter was still a host on The View. The Flintstones actress commented on the then-businessman/media personality,
“He annoys me on a multitude of levels. He's the moral authority, left the first wife, had an affair, left the second wife, had an affair. Had kids both times, but he's the moral compass for 20-year-olds in America. Donald sit and spin, my friend. I don't enjoy him. No.”
Rosie O'Donnell also commented on Donald Trump’s bankruptcy declarations,
“He inherited a lot of money… And he's been bankrupt so many times where he didn't have to pay, but the people beneath him who he owed money to got shorted out of the money, but he got to again, try again and again and you know what saved him the second time. After his father died, with that money he paid off all his bankruptcy.”
She claimed that Donald Trump is “not a self-made man.” Rosie also joked about getting sued by Trump for her remarks and claimed,
“He's going to sue me but he'll be bankrupt by that time, so I won't have to worry.”
O’Donnell called Trump a “snake oil business” and reiterated that she doesn’t “enjoy him.”
The Emmy winner has continued to criticize Trump via her social media on various topics, including the recent Texas floods. However, O’Donnell isn’t holding back even after receiving a threat from the US President. In an Instagram post, she shared a picture of Trump and Jeffrey Epstein and wrote,
“hey donald – you’re rattled again? 18 years later and I still live rent-free in that collapsing brain of yours.”
She referenced Trump’s statement,
“you call me a threat to humanity – but I’m everything you fear: a loud woman a queer woman a mother who tells the truth an american who got out of the country b4 u set it ablaze”
Rosie O’Donnell relocated to Ireland in January when Trump was sworn in as the US President. In her post, she highlighted her choice to move to another country,
“you build walls – I build a life for my autistic kid in a country where decency still exists / you crave loyalty – I teach my children to question power / you sell fear on golf courses – I make art about surviving trauma / you lie, you steal, you degrade – I nurture, I create, I persist”
Rosie O’Donnell described Trump as “everything that is wrong with America” and added,
“I’m everything you hate about what’s still right with it”
She compared Trump with King Joffrey and asked him to revoke her US citizenship,
“you want to revoke my citizenship? go ahead and try, king joffrey with a tangerine spray tan / i’m not yours to silence i never was”
Rosie O’Donnell also spoke on RTÉ Radio 1’s Sunday with Miriam, claiming that she is “very proud to be opposed to every single thing he says and does and represents.” The talk show host asserted that she didn’t take Trump’s threat personally.
According to the Associated Press, Trump cannot revoke O’Donnell’s citizenship. The outlet spoke to Amanda Frost, a law professor at the University of Virginia School of Law, on Sunday, July 13, 2025. She cited the Fourteenth Amendment of the Constitution in an email to AP and referenced a ruling in a case from 1967.
Frost added that the US President “has no authority to take away the citizenship” of a native-born citizen. For those unaware, Rosie O’Donnell was born in New York in 1962.
