Veteran actor Bruce MacVittie has died at the age of 65, his wife, Carol Ochs, told the New York Times. MacVittie died at a hospital in New York City on May 7. A cause of death has not yet been announced.
MacVittie was known for roles in The Sopranos, Law & Order, and As the World Turns, as well as his Broadway performance opposite Al Pacino in a 1983 production of David Mamet's American Buffalo. He was cast in American Buffalo less than a month into the play's run, replacing actor James Hayden, who died of a drug overdose. MacVittie continued the role on Broadway, in a touring production, and on London's West End.
Early on in his career, MacVittie was featured in a number of well-known television dramas, including, Miami Vice, The Equalizer, LA Law, Homicide: Life on the Street, Oz, and many more. In 2002, he landed a recurring role in The Sopranos as Danny Scalercio, a juror in Junior Soprano's (Dominic Chianese) trial.
More recently, MacVittie appeared in Law & Order: Special Victims Unit, When They See Us, Killer Among Us, and a 2022 episode of Bull.
MacVittie is survived by his wife, Carol Ochs, and his daughter, Sophia Oliva Ochs MacVittie.
