Tom Hanks is 'Glad' There's a League of Their Own Series

Tom Hanks is happy A League of Their Own is getting the reboot treatment. 

At the premiere of Pinocchio this week, Hanks told The Hollywood Reporter that he hadn't seen the show yet, but he's pleased it exists. "I’m really glad it’s here because they can touch on some of the social things that were bypassed by the original. That’s where we are now," he said. "There’s no reason not to get into the other aspects of who people love and why they play the game and stuff like that as well."

The Amazon original series, which reimagines Penny Marshall's 1992 film, is co-created by Will Graham and Broad City's Abbi Jacobson. This iteration of A League of Their Own seeks to represent Black and LGBTQ+ characters in a way the movie doesn't, and received blessings during production from Marshall and original stars Geena Davis and Rosie O'Donnell.

"It’s kind of odd to realize — is that how old I am now? They’re now making better versions of things that I made back in 1990-something?" Hanks jested about the reboot. No word yet on when he plans to watch.

A League of Their Own Season 1 is streaming on Amazon Prime Video.
