Ice-T stopped by The View Thursday to talk about his new show The Mediator as well as the much-anticipated return of Christopher Meloni's Elliot Stabler to Law & Order: Special Victims Unit. Joy Behar asked about why Meloni left in the first place, and Ice-T had his back.
"As an actor, a lot of times there are other things you want to do," he said. "Every actor doesn't start out saying 'I want to play one part for 20 years. So, Chris wanted to do movies, Chris wanted to act in other roles. So he did 12 years, he went out, he's done a lot of different work, he had his own show Happy!, and now he's come back to the [Dick] Wolf universe, and everybody's happy. I've been in touch with Chris the whole time, 'cause we're friends in real life. But to have him come back, and watch what's gonna happen with him and Mariska [Hargitay], everybody's just waiting for that moment."
Meloni returns to Law & Order: Special Victims Unit April 1 on NBC.
