John Oliver was on fire Sunday night on Last Week Tonight as he lashed out against the President Trump's assertions that he's already ended the pandemic and suggestions that he's "doing the best he can."
The latter might actually be true, Oliver said, although he specified that there's big difference between the best any president could do and the best Trump could do. "We should probably all be grateful that he hasn't tried bottling his urine and selling it as Trump Immunity Juice," he quipped.
In lambasting Trump's public safety communication skills, he showed a clip of Trump's "borderline sociopathic" inability to express empathy to a medical professional expressing concern about front-line workers' post-traumatic stress in the face of so much death, in which he completely shrugs off the concern and starts handing out pens to the people in the Oval Office.
"I know, after four years, it is hard for anything Trump does to shock you anymore, but it is worth making sure that that still does," Oliver said. "He wasn't even listening! He was just sitting there, waiting for his turn to speak, so he could do his pen thing. Is there anything more grim than that? I mean, I guess he could have NOT offered them pens, but would that have been worse? Better? It's honestly difficult to say. It's even more difficult to write a joke off of. 'Oh, Trump must be great for you comedians, right?' Yeah, not really. This has been a f---king nightmare!"
