This first look at the new Krista Vernoff series Rebel illustrates how Annie Bello's (Katey Sagal) constant crusades for justice have taken a toll on her personal life. The character is loosely inspired by the real-life advocate Erin Brockovich, who executive produces and says of the show "I have waited a very long time for this moment."
"Her personal life is a mess, but I think she feels like sacrifice is worth it for the good that she does in the world," says Kevin Zegers, who plays her son, Dr. Nathaniel Flynn.
"The show very much stands for empowering people, and knowing that when we organize and stand together, we hold the power," says Ariela Barer, who plays Rebel's daughter Ziggy.
"There's a lot that sets this show apart," says Lex Scott Davis, Rebel's other daughter Cassidy Ray. "It's bold. It's not cookie-cutter."
Tamala Jones, who plays Rebel's colleague Lanalee Ray, is more succinct. "It's gonna be kick-ass."
Rebel premieres Thursday, April 8 at 10:00 PM ET on ABC.
