Joy Behar Calls on AG Merrick Garland to Indict Trump ASAP: He's a 'Wounded Animal'

With former President Trump expected to announce his 2024 run on Tuesday night, Joy Behar implored Attorney General Merrick Garland to indict Trump now, before he's able to hide behind his presidential campaign.

The women of The View were in agreement that Trump is announcing his candidacy so early because he's hoping to avoid legal repercussions of the Department of Justice's investigation into his efforts to overturn the 2020 election. "Announcing a presidential run at this time is a sign of weakness," said Alyssa Farah Griffin, herself a former Trump administration staffer. "Usually a candidate, if you were in a strong place, would wait until next summer."

After some back and forth about Trump-backed Republicans getting their "clocks cleaned" in the midterms, Behar returned to his looming campaign announcement. "Now that Trump is a wounded animal, this is the exact time when Merrick Garland should swoop in an indict him," she said. "Already Merrick Garland is a day late and a dollar short. He should've done that this morning, before this guy announces."

Behar went on to say that by waiting to indict Trump, "Now it looks as though it's political, which is what Merrick Garland was trying to avoid."

"Well, he needs a little bit of time because there are at least four to five areas he's investigating with Donald Trump," replied Sunny Hostin, the panel's resident legal expert.

"So how about one before the announcement?!" fired back Behar, prompting Ana Navarro to note that Garland only has "about 10 hours" to follow her instructions.

Elsewhere on The View... Navarro spent the morning "danc[ing] on Kari Lake's grave" after the Republican candidate lost the Arizona governor's race. The co-host pulled up a clip of Lake telling "McCain Republicans" to "get the hell out," a remark that seems to have made a difference in the election.

"So, it turns out that when you say in Arizona to McCain Republicans, a man who was a decorated war hero, a prisoner of war, who served that state honorably for three decades, who was a mentor, who saved the Affordable Care Act — when you tell McCain Republicans to get the hell out, they do!" said Navarro. "And that's why you lost."

"So you know what?" she concluded. "John McCain, I hope you're having a Belvedere up there, because I know you're chuckling."

Who says The View's McCain era is over and done with?
