Netflix's Firefly Lane Brings the Lifetime Vibe to Streaming

Netflix has once again set its sights on a cable network's bread and butter, not with a psycho stalker movie of the week, but with a misty-eyed female friendship drama. As Joe Reid writes in his positive review, the difference between Firefly Lane and something you'd see on Lifetime or Freeform is a pair of very strong performances from Katherine Heigl and Sarah Chalke. The series drops its complete first season today. 

Also today: Graduation day arrives on Riverdale, The Expanse drops its season finale, and The Masked Dancer welcomes its Top Five back to the stage. Here's what's new and noteworthy on TV this Wednesday:

SEASON PREMIERE: Based on the bestselling novel by Kristin Hannah, Firefly Lane follows lifelong friends Tully (Katherine Heigl) and Kate (Sarah Chalke) as they meet as tweens in the early seventies, learn the ropes of TV reporting in the Aqua Net haze of the eighties, and lean on one another for support in the present day. Watch trailer. NEW EPISODE: It's the end of an era on Riverdale as Archie (K.J. Apa) learns whether he'll be able to graduate with his classmates, while FP (Skeet Ulrich) makes a difficult decision about his future with Jellybean (Trinity Likins). The series is set to make a seven-year time-jump in its next episode. 8:00 PM ET on The CW

SEASON FINALE: Holden (Steven Strait) and the Roci face off against Marco (Keon Alexander) and Drummer (Cara Gee) on the season finale of The Expanse. Meanwhile, Alex (Cas Anvar) and Bobbie (Frankie Adams) attempt a dangerous rescue mission, and the balance of power in the Solar System shifts. Streaming on Prime Video

NEW EPISODE: Cotton Candy, Exotic Bird, Sloth, Tulip and Zebra face off on The Masked Dancer. Four will advance to next week's semifinals. 8:00 PM ET on FOX
