Lizzy Caplan and Joshua Jackson Revisit a Fatal Attraction

Fatal Attraction

Sunday, Paramount+

New stars and changing attitudes mark this eight-episode update of 1987’s infidelity and obsession thriller Fatal Attraction. Joshua Jackson plays unfaithful family man Dan Gallagher this time out, with Lizzy Caplan stepping into the troubled shoes of Alex Forrest, who still will not be ignored. Picking up from the Adrian Lyne film’s original, discarded ending, this Fatal Attraction opens 15 years later, with Dan being released from prison for Alex’s murder and trying to reconnect with wife Beth (Amanda Peet) and now-grown daughter Ellen (Alyssa Jirrels), all while attempting to piece together the fateful events of his past indiscretions. Toby Huss co-stars in this series from creators Alexandra Cunningham and Kevin J. Hynes. The first three episodes premiere Sunday.

White House Plumbers

Monday, 9:00 PM ET on HBO

Woody Harrelson is Howard Hunt and Justin Theroux plays G. Gordon Liddy in this satirical limited series about Richard Nixon’s covert special ops unit whose unwavering fealty to their leader and klutzy planning skills saw them arrested for breaking into Washington’s Watergate Office Building in pursuit of Democratic National Committee secrets.

Playing up the duplicitous duo’s egotistical treachery while still maintaining the “crazier than fiction” reality of this infamous act of anti-American incompetence, Harrelson and Theroux are joined by a stellar cast, with Domhnall Gleason, Lena Headey, Ike Barinholtz, Kiernan Shipka, Judy Greer, Kathleen Turner and others all filling out the president-toppling scandal’s cast of real-life characters. Veep’s David Mandel, who knows his way around a dysfunctional Washington D.C., directs all of White House Plumbers five episodes, with the first dropping on Monday.

Bupkis

Thursday, Peacock

After teaming with Judd Apatow to portray a fictionalized version of himself in the film The King of Staten Island, comedian Pete Davidson collaborates with his former Saturday Night Live boss Lorne Michaels for this even less fictionalized depiction of the troubled comic’s eventful life.

After moving back in with his loving but overbearing mother (played by Edie Falco) in his home borough of Staten Island, the series’s Davidson copes with fame, substance abuse, depression, and the wacky friends, both famous and not, who populate his post-SNL days. With none other than the un-retired Joe Pesci on hand as Davidson’s gruff but loving grandfather, and a star-studded cast including John Mulaney, Nathan Fillion, Method Man, Charlie Day, Sebastian Stan, and many more, Bupkis’ mix of autobiographical comedy and fanciful absurdity looks to capture just what it’s like to live inside Pete Davidson’s head.

The Other Two Season 3

Thursday, HBO Max

The third season of this hilarious and engaging HBO comedy sees Drew Tarver’s Cary and Heléne Yorke’s Brooke still stuck in the oversized shadow of their teen idol younger brother (Case Walker’s ChaseDreams), and their talk show celebrity mom Pat, played by Molly Shannon. Sure, they both have some irons in the show business fire, as Cary’s first starring role (in the most COVID-delayed indie film ever) and Brooke’s managerial career (mainly managing Chase and Pat) continue to tease them with the brass ring of Hollywood success. But as viewers of this comedy from former Saturday Night Live writers Sarah Schneider and Chris Kelly know all too well, the more things seem promising for The Other Two’s perpetually overlooked siblings, the bigger the comic crash waiting around the bend.

Silo

Friday, Apple TV+

After humanity has turned Earth into a toxic dystopia, a group of survivors eke out a contentious existence in a massive silo hundreds of feet underground in this sci-fi series based on the novels by Hugh Howey. The population may be small in this subterranean refuge, but there are talented actors aplenty, as Rashida Jones, David Oyelowo, Rebecca Ferguson, Tim Robbins, Common and more all cope with the harsh realities of post-apocalyptic bunker living, and the creeping suspicion that their situation may not be as straightforward as they’ve been led to believe. Silo’s first two episodes premiere on Friday.

A Small Light

Monday, 9:00 PM ET on National Geographic

The story of Anne Frank is told from the point of view of the young woman who helped hide the young Jewish girl and her family from the Nazis in this historical limited series. In A Small Light, Bel Powley plays Miep Gies, the young Dutch woman who helped her employer Otto Frank (here played by Liev Schrieber) conceal his family and several other Dutch Jews from the rising Nazi threat. With Billie Boullet playing Anne, the series strikes a balance between Gies’ and her Resistance compatriots’ valiant efforts and the crushing weight of the Franks’ inevitable fate at the hands of history’s greatest monsters.
