Dexter: Resurrection takes place a few weeks after New Blood. Having recovered from the gunshot wound that Harrison caused, Dexter comes out of a coma. Learning about what Harrison did in New York and how he vanished thereafter, Dexter breaks out of the hospital with the hope of tracking down his son and stopping him from going down the same dark way that he had once taken.
With a fresh serial killer on the loose, Dexter is set to solve the case while evading Miami Metro Captain Angel Batista and still looking for Harrison. As with its predecessors, the show combines the criminal underworld, eerie suspense, moral evaluation, and dark wit.
Whereas Michael C. Hall resumes his role as Dexter, Jack Alcott plays his role as Dexter's son, Harrison Morgan. James Remar plays the role of Dexter's father, Harry Morgan, while David Zayas plays Detective Angel Batista. John Lithgow, Erik King, and Jimmy S. guest-star in the show as characters they played earlier in Dexter.
Peter Dinklage portrays Leon Prater, a mysterious billionaire, and Uma Thurman plays Leon's Head of Security, Charley. Neil Patrick Harris will be seen as a character named Lowell/The Tattoo Collector. Meanwhile, Eric Stonestreet will play a midwestern serial killer named AI/Rapaunzel.
John Lithgow, Erik King, and Jimmy S played the ghosts of Arthur Mitchell, Miguel Prado, and James Doakes, respectively, in Resurrection. They were all previously featured in the original series, with the exception of Lithgow, who had also featured in New Blood.
Michael C. Hall spoke with Deadline in an interview published on July 11, 2025, and described what it was like to work with the actors returning to the show.
"That it was pure joy for an OG fan is a big part of why I was so excited when I saw it. I was like, ‘Oh, it’s gonna resonate, and it shows just how rich the mythology of the show has grown to be.’ It was amazing seeing those guys and doing scenes with them, so many years since we started. It was incredible," Hall said.
Dexter: Resurrection is now streaming on Paramount+ Premium.
